Professionalism Hallmark Of Brevard Music Center know the Brevard Music Cen ter is a mecca fur the per forming arts with renowned guest soloists stunning opera productions, concerts and mu sicals. The hallmark of Brevard Music Center has become pro fessionalism but such a hall mark is not easily attained. Long years of study and prac tice are required and behind every stunning performance there are innumerable hours of study and practice. First and foremost, the Center is an educational in stitution and the fruits of that education are seen in the alumni of the Center long years after they have con cluded summers of study at the Center. There is, how ever, a more hnmediate recognition of study and ed ucation. Stage center dur ing weeknight and days at the Center is the youth who has come to the Center to learn from master musicians. The youth dresses for a con cert, calms his butterflies, tunes Us instrument, and ap pears in concert with the >i«us;iv«ium iouw urcnes tra, Transylvania Wind En semble, or in student recitals »een every Wednesday after noon at the Center. In concert he is under the masterful batons of such tal ented conductors as Robert Barr, Ward Woodbury or Mario Mancinelli. These professionals spend long hours readying for one concert to last a mere two hours. Program planning, au ditions. rehearsals, and indi vidual attention consume much of their time but still makes them available to the student for instruction, advice, coun sel, and fellowship. In a few days or a few weeks the youth orchestra is molded into a workable, pro fessional sounding symphony that can delight audiences. The experience and exposure afforded students with week day and weeknight concerts provides an important step ping stone for their individual careers. They quickly reach the point where the Center places them at a crossroads. They must choose between music as a pastime and mu sic as a career. Even at this point conductors and instruc tors are available for advice. In the overall picture of the overall picture of the Cen ter, this point is often Bias ed by crowds who attend ma jor concerts at the Center, for they are unaware that five or ten years from now they may see or hear one of these students as a featured soloist at a major concert. To say students at the Cen ter are amateurs would be neglecting an important fact. They may be students at Bre vard Music Center, but at the same time they are young pro fessionals. These young tal ents are the stars of the future in the music field. Brevard Music Center students appear in concert frequently during the season offering music lovers an excellent opportunity to see stars of the future at a con siderable savings on ticket prices with no sacrifice in quality. Ticket information for in dividuals or groups is avail able at Brevard Music Cen ter, 883-8338.
